The world’s toughest athletes will experience advanced catalytic wound care at this year’s Calgary Stampede, thanks to Calgary-based biotechnology startup, NanoTess, and the Canadian Pro Rodeo Sport Medicine team.
“Having a simple, effective wound care product that our practitioners can confidently apply across this broad spectrum of injuries has the potential to enhance the care we provide to athletes. It's especially rewarding to support an innovative solution developed in Calgary, allowing us to champion Canadian innovation while delivering high-quality care to competitors across the country.”

NanoTess manufactures NanoSALV Catalytic, a wound healing product powered by their proprietary catalytic technology, CTM. It is used by physicians, surgeons, paramedics, and patients across Canada to support the healing of acute, traumatic, chronic, and complex wounds.

For rodeo athletes, this means faster healing for friction burns and skin abrasions, blisters, puncture wounds, lacerations, sutured injuries and surgical incisions.

Megan Leslie, NanoTess’ co-founder and CEO, says NanoSALV Catalytic excels in tackling traumatic wounds in austere environments, making it perfectly suited to the world’s biggest rodeo.

“Everyone knows that rodeo competitors are the toughest athletes in the world, but even the toughest athletes need wound care when things go sideways,” she says. “Whether it’s a deep tissue rope burn or a laceration from a fall, we know nothing means more to them than getting back out there as quickly as possible. In the capable hands of the Canadian Pro Rodeo Sport Medicine team, we know NanoSALV Catalytic is going to make a big difference to this year’s cowboys and cowgirls.”

“As a Calgary-based company, we’re thrilled to be able to support competitors in this year’s Calgary Stampede, with our advanced wound care technology that’s made right here in the city,” she adds.

Brandon Thome, Canadian Pro Rodeo Sport Medicine’s Executive Director, says his team is excited to bring local healthcare innovation to the chutes.

“Our team of 70 caregivers—including athletic therapists, massage therapists, and chiropractors—provides medical coverage at rodeos across Canada for more than 275 days each year. Throughout the season, we manage a wide variety of wounds, ranging from blisters sustained by bareback riders and rope burns from timed-event competitors to puncture wounds, cuts, scrapes, and abrasions common in the rodeo environment,” he says.

Made in Calgary, NanoSALV Catalytic is a medical device authorised for sale by Health Canada, used by physicians, surgeons, and healthcare systems across Canada. It is powered by the company’s proprietary catalytic technology, CTM, which was also developed in Calgary.

CTM employs micron-scale catalysts that work on the surface of injured tissue at any stage, leveraging copper to fine-tune regenerative signalling and re-establish key biochemical signals. It enables accelerated healing, modulates inflammation, and acts as a broad-spectrum anti-microbial and anti-viral.

NanoSALV Catalytic is covered through Alberta’s public health benefits programs, including Coverage for Seniors, Non-Group Coverage, Palliative, and AISH.
